St Neots outplayed and outclassed bottom of the table Blackstones with a sparkling seven goals second half display that lifted them up to second place in the league table. Carl Safee was back in the team after suspension and he contributed a personal hat trick to take his tally to twelve goals in seven matches. However but for some rather wayward finishing the final score should have been much greater.
The first half was almost all a catalogue of St Neots attacking play and visiting keeper Adam Blick was easily the busiest man on the field. After just two minutes Sean Barker shot wide when clear and then a Jamie Massey corner was headed wide by Harry Jenkins. A Massey shot was blocked by the keeper’s body and then he clawed away another effort by Conner Belgrove. He then distinguished himself with two fine save to deny Jenkins and Ash Farouqui and Rooke went clear but dragged his short wide. The breakthrough came ten minutes before the break when a Massey cross picked out Safee whose shot was blocked but the ball fell kindly for Sean Barker to net.
What was said at half time is not recorded but the result was swift and dramatic as St Neots ran in two goals in the first five minutes of the half. A delightful three man move produced the first after 47 minutes as Safee and Barker combined to set up David Hartley and then when a Rooke shot rattled a goalpost the ball rebounded to Barker who made no mistake from close range. After 62 minutes Hartley turned provider as he set up Safee to score the first of his three with a crisp drive and two minutes later he was on hand again to force the ball home in a goalmouth scramble. His third goal in just eight minutes came after 70 minutes when a Barker shot was parried by the overworked Blick and Safee completed his hat trick to make the score 6-0. Inevitable more was to follow and Jenkins added the seventh goal just one minute later and the scoring was completed three minutes from time by substitute Tyler Millward set up by Safee.
