GODMANCHESTER ROVERS U 18 2 ST NEOTS U18 2
These two evenly matched sides fought out a competitive draw that suggests they will once again be in the mix for honours at the end of the season. The home side led twice but failed to sustain their advantage as each time St Neots replied, and the visitors might have gone on to win with a dominant finish to the match, but the home defence held firm.
The home side made the better start and only a last-ditch defensive tackle robbed the speedy Jason Kissi from opening the scoring after six minutes. However, the home side maintained their positive start and took the lead after 16 minutes when a shot from Samuel Tagg was blocked and George Claxton followed up to net. St Neots responded well with Brandon Jessup prominent in their attack, first firing over the bar after neat work by Will Jolly, and then forcing a full length save from home custodian Charlie Nicholson. After a spell of pressure St Neots levelled the scores nine minutes before half time when the home keeper dropped a cross, and Uriah Brewster pounced on the loose ball to net. The lively Caleb Wright forced a full length save from Nicholson just before the break.
Godmanchester once again made a bright start after the break and Kissi immediately forced an important save from visiting keeper Alex Bent. The first half pattern of play was replicated as St Neots forced their way back into the match with Uriah Brewster firing over the bar after racing through the home defence. Midway through the second half it was Brewster who levelled the scores with a well-placed free kick and in the final stages St Neots looking the fitter side had most of the play but two good saves by Nicholson ensued a share of the points.
